SpendView is the latest personal finance tool to receive funding. The still-in-private-beta site has yet to launch, but this most recent round of funding marks the first series of investment for SpendView, totaling $2 million from Meakem Becker Venture Capital.
As a handful of other recently launched personal finance tools have done, SpendView appears to take the somewhat whimsical approach to managing funds, paying attention to design, page layout and the manner in which data is organized. Likening it to other web-based tools that operate from such a visual standpoint, SpendView helps you see your spending habits in blatant ways, such as tag clouds and in-your-face graphs.
I??m all for it, but the process still relies heavily on individual user contribution. To that end, touches like automatic tag ??reminders?? that grant you quick and easy access to all the tags you??ve previously used will take some of the pain out of updating your SpendView account, while also ensuring the optimal organization of your information. As SpendView is currently under wraps, I cannot say whether or not the site has such options, but I personally feel that this would streamline and simplify the overall process.
Similar to Geezeo, SpendView also has Targets, which lets you categorize your various budgets within a budget, and stay on track with the spending limits or savings goals you may have for specific items or accomplishments. While the overarching goal is to help you manage yourself better, automated tools with the inclusion of outside resources has proven, in my personal experience, to be a handy combination. This is something seen with Mint in terms of banking and credit card offerings, and with Geezeo in the form of community tools.
Of course the trend of centralizing and automating your lifestyle is one that is being picked up on for concepts outside of personal finance tools. Health and fitness see the benefits of graphs and goals, and PageOnce is hoping to combine all aspects of your life in order to present a consolidated approach to managing yourself.
